Easy Inexpensive Hobbies that can Heal

It’s well known that hobbies are a great way for a person to release stress and reduce anxiety. They teach us how to be in the present moment as our fast paced life constantly needs are attention on 10 things at a time which has adverse effects on our health.

For our mental well-being, we need to find a way to release stress, unwind the anxiety and let the mind forget about the world and the issues for sometime so that it can recharge and revitalize with energy to fight and compete again if needed.

Some people may already be fortunate to have a hobby that they cherish the most where as some may struggle and unsure of what they like.

Although there are many hobbies one can take and there is no age to learn new things, I am covering some very easy and inexpensive hobbies that are very rewarding to calm your mind and unwind stress and let’s your creativity going:

  • Coloring – This is the easiest hobby yet full of imagination with the colors to let the creative juices flowing. There are plenty of coloring book themes out there, pick which brings the joy.
  • Drawing – It’s not about drawing beautiful faces but instead just start dipping your toes into it like a child and forget about the world.
  • Sewing – If you have got a sewing machine, just do small projects like a kitchen towel or a table cover.
  • Slow Stitching – Very rewarding and really helps to focus the mind on one thing. If you struggle to keep your mind quiet, this might be the one that can do the trick. Again, start with very small projects. Also remember, the projects don’t need to be functional, you can just stitch on paper, make a simple tag. Just enjoy the creative process. It’s all about the journey than the destination itself.
  • Journaling – My personal favorite hobby that benefits in so many ways from inside out. While it heals the mind, it also helps to be more productive in general in our daily lives.
  • Journal Making – Might sound a bit unusual but I had to include it as it is my favorite again and has really taught me so much about the fact that it’s the creative journey which we need to enjoy. Sometimes I forget and become impatient to create the final product. This hobby is really great for paper lover, writer or in general who loves books. I specially like Junk Journal types of books as it really pushes you to be creative while you recycle your old stuff.
  • Jewelry making – It is another inexpensive hobby, specially for someone likes to accessorize. I don’t wear much jewelry but I like to make small charms and dangles for my journals.
  • Embroidery – It is another good hobby and if you like slow stitching then you might like this too.

Just pick anyone that resonates and do it for 21 days. It’s magic number so do not leave before that. Initially it can get boring as you might not see results the way you expected, but trust me, it get’s better with time and once you see something of your own creation, you are hooked 🙂

I will try and some pictures of my work in the above areas as well.
